An extremely important, but often overlooked, part of treatment is the emotional one.  Facing a life-threatening disease throws both a patient and his family totally off their balance of daily routine.  The healthy spouse, children in the home and extended family all need emotional support, as the disease takes its toll on them in different ways.  The social workers at RCCS are trained to assist with physical, psychological and social adjustments related to the stress they experience.  These are related to the different stages beginning with the diagnosis, treatment, and continuing on through the hospitalization period.  The intense social support offered has a great impact on the patient’s psychosocial adjustment.
